what is drug doping?
Drug doping is the use of any performance enhancing substances when competing in elite sports. Most world-wide sport organizations regard drugs use as unethical practice and it is prohibited to use. There are a variety of drugs been used among elite athletes and the most prevalent being stimulants and hormones. Another form of doping is blood transfusions or gene doping. The rejection to take a drug test or try to manipulate results will also result in severe consequences.
As competitors continue to participate in elite sports, drug doping will become a prominent issue and will come across people who begin to drug doped or have before. |

Retired cyclist from America, Lance Armstrong admitted to blood doping 2013 and was stripped of his seven Tour de France medals and was banned for life from the sport. |
Marion jones
Marion Jones an American sprinter had used performance enhancing drugs just weeks before the Sydney 2000 summer Olympics and through her career. but she only admitted to the use of steroids it in 2007. She was asked to return the five meals she had won and was given a two-year ban. |
Luiza Gulilian
In 2012 Luzia Galiulian a gymnast from Uzbekistan was about to make her second appearance at the London Summer Olympics. After Galilian tested positive to furosemide she was provisionally banned from the games. This masking agent and diuretic are often used for rapid weight loss and to mask the presence of other banned substances. She was given a two year suspension and removed from the Olympic village. |
Maria Sharapova
At the Australian open, Maria Sharapova tested positive to Meldonium. This prescribed drug assisted with helping protect heart tissue by regulating metabolism. The positive effects of this drug is that it increases endurance performance, protects against stress and improves rehabilitation after exercise. She was banned from playing tennis for two years (until 2018) and came into the world anti-doping agency list and was banned in 2016. |
